Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Determine job requirements
   • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)
2. Comply with work health and safety (WHS) requirements at all times
3. Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with SOPs
4. Identify job requirements from specifications, drawings, job sheets or work instructions
5. Plan modification requirements
   • Analyse maintenance reports and system output information
6. Identify defective components, sub-assemblies and design faults
7. Develop corrective action plan
8. Undertake standard modifications to mechanical systems and equipment
   • Identify modification options for overcoming parts failures and design faults
9. Select replacements for failed components and sub-assemblies from manufacturers’ catalogue
10. Develop modification design in conjunction with and approved by appropriate authority
11. Record modification according to SOPs
12. Evaluate modified mechanical system/equipment
    • Evaluate alterations for effectiveness and efficiency
13. Report and record effectiveness/efficiency
14. Check results against specifications
15. Recommend additional modification/changes, where required
